www.englishgujaratigrammar.in • Indefinite Articles (અચોક્કસ ઉપપદો) :- A or an is called the Indefinite Article because it is used for singular common noun as, a teacher (any teacher), an engineer (any engineer). A or an is not used for proper noun or in plural noun. A: ‘A’ is used before a word beginning with a consonant sound. જે શબ્દનો ઉચ્ચાર વ્યંજન થતો હોય તેની પહેલા ‘A’article વપરાય. E.g; a book, a pen, a boy, a uniform, a university, a european, a one rupee note, a useful article. An: ‘An’ is used before a word beginning with a vowel sound. જે શબ્દનો ઉચ્ચાર સ્વર થતો હોય તેની પહેલા ‘An’article વપરાય. E.g; an orange, an elephant, an honest boy, an hour, an M.B.B.S, an S.T. road • Definite Article (ચોક્કસ ઉપપદો) :- The is used before singular and plural noun. Uses of ‘The’ article:- Before one and only Unique names: the sun, the moon, the earth Before a common noun that is used second time: I met an old man. The old man wanted my help. I saw an elephant. The elephant was white. Before a singular noun that represents a whole class: The cow is an useful animal. Before a proper non that is used as adjective: Kalidas is the Shakespeare in Sanskrit literature. Before Mountains/Ocean/Sea/River/Canal/Lake/Jungle/Desert/Island/newspapers/magazines/holy books/trains/boat/universities
