Essays for high school students (Std.11 to 12)
Essays Sanjay Sathwara
Hobby gives us inner joy and enthusiasm. Everyone has a hobby. My hobby is reading. I read story books, magazines, newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting.
My hobby got started when I was a little boy. I always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other stories to me. Then I started with simple ABC books.
Reading enables me to learn about so many things that I would otherwise not know. I learned about how people lived in bygone days of magic and mystery. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements, gigantic whales, tiny viruses and other fascinating things of our world.
The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn things the hard way. For example, I do not have to catch a disease to know that it can kill me. I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also I do not have to go deep into the jungle to learn about the tiger. I can read all about it in a book.
Books provide the reader with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise I would go about ignorantly learning things the hard way.
So I continue to read. Besides being more informed about the world, I also spend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.
MY Ambition in Life/The Choice of Career
Life without ambition is like a boat without boatman. Different people have different ambitions. Some want to be rich. Some wish to become leaders or doctors or scientists or engineers or managers.
My ambition is to become an ideal English teacher. It is the noblest profession in the world.
The teacher does a great service to the society. He produces well disciplined and useful citizens. People who choose teaching as their profession are fortunate because they can serve the country and also earn a living at the same time. The future of the younger generation depends on the education they receive. The teacher guides them in the correct path.
Teaching is not a monotonous job. Unlike working in a miserable place like a hospital, the teacher is always with the young ones with smiling faces. So he spends his time happily. The teacher is respected by everyone. He leads an exemplary life. Because of these reasons I like to be a teacher.
If I become a teacher I will dress well, speak well, and teach well. I will use different methods of teaching. I will give knowledge to my students with fun. I will give homework to my students and check it regularly.
Books – Our Best Friends
Books are our never failing friends. They are our best friends, philosophers and guides. Friends are plenty when the purse is full but fair-weather friends fall off in adversity. They encourage us when we feel sad and despondent.
They lift the poor out of poverty and the wretched out of misery. They bring light into darkness and sunshine into shadow.
All the same we should be very judicious in the selection of books as in the choice of friends. The friendship of good books is the medicine of life but there are books more dangerous than snakes and more poisonous than scorpions. The really good books sharpen our intellect, broaden our mind, enrich our experience, widen our knowledge, uplift our morals, making us better, nobler and happier in life.
Books play important role in influencing our character and personality. A man is known by the company he keeps so it is necessary to pick the right books. Reading is a habit and one should cultivate since childhood. It is the best leisure time activity – one must slowly graduate from picture comics, fairy tales, detective and romance stories to good literature.
Good books are the life-blood of a nation. Books like the Gita and the Mahabharta inspire us. They are our best companions in solitude. They are a treasure house of noble thoughts which are open to us day and night.
A book like the Ramayana is undoubtedly the best of companions. It offers us all the balm we need when life has given us a rebuff and the world looks cold and uncharitable. It is a book to be digested. It is a book to be read with diligence and attention.
My Favourite Game
There are many kinds of games. Some games are indoor. Some are outdoor. Indoor games like carom, chess, etc. do not require more space. Outdoor games like cricket, football, etc. require more space. Games are very important in our life.. They keep us healthy and fit. They are good for our physical as well as mental health. They give us energy and strength. They keep us active for the whole day.
I like cricket very much. It is one of the popular games all over the world. Cricket is played with bat and ball in an open ground. It is played between two teams. There are eleven players in each team. Cricket is divided into three kinds- ODI match, Test Match, and Twenty Twenty match. It is a game which requires energy, stamina, concentration and fitness. Every player plays with a team spirit. It is the spirit which ensures the win of the team.
The game of cricket infuses in the player a sense of cooperation and coordination. Not only discipline and cooperation, the game has become a good source of earning too. The team which wins any mega event is showered with booties. The players become multi-millionaire overnight. They become hero. They become role model particularly for the youth.
It is the popularity of this game that big companies sponsor sports events. The tickets are sold at high rate. Big money is at stake. The stadium is crowded with the spectators. The players are showered with gifts for every sixes and fours. Its popularity can be gauged from the thundering applause of the spectators. The game is a good source of promoting love, friendliness and cooperation among member countries. It brings them closer.
Uses Of Computer
Computer is a great invention of modern age. It is a gift of science to mankind. It was invented by Charles Babbage. It is very useful to us in many ways. Today life without computer is unimaginable.
Computer is used in each and every field of life. It is used in schools, banks, hospitals, airports, bus stations, railway stations, industry, etc. Computers are very helpful at school. Students can make projects, find reference books, and revise for test or examination.
Internet is also very useful for students and teachers. With the help of internet we can send mail, download mp3 songs, videos, and softwares. Using the Internet, we can voice and video chat free. Computers are popular for their speed, accuracy, storage, and versatility. The word processing capabilities of computers are amazing. They can automatically correct your spelling and grammar mistakes. The cutting and pasting features are incredibly simple and very useful for revision. If you want to add pictures to your writing, numerous software titles are available for desktop publishing. With desktop publishing, you can create page layouts for entire books on your home computer.
No doubt there are also many disadvantages of computers. It influences our health and our eyes. It spoils the mind of children. Many people become unemployed because of it. They hamper people’s development in real life. We spend less time for our relatives. They make us addicted.
Computers are good means of education. They promise to enrich and develop our lives and make our daily chores more convenient and interesting.
